Thomas J. Browning, Esq.

A true native of Georgia, Mr. Browning was born in Atlanta on February 20, 1944. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Arts from Oglethorpe University in 1967. He started an interesting career as a traveling salesman before he figured out his true calling was missing. In 1970 he married Lucy Eargle and entered law school two months later.

In 1973, he graduated Magna Cum Laude and received his Juris Doctorate from Woodrow Wilson College of Law, where he served as editor of the Woodrow Wilson Yearbook, Verdict, that same year. Mr. Browning was then admitted to the State Bar of Georgia and was well on his way. He worked as a Law Clerk to Judge Luther C. Hames of the Cobb Superior Court for two years and learned the invaluable ins and outs of the justice system.

Following his clerkship with Judge Hames, he entered private practice with former Governor Roy E. Barnes where they worked together for twenty-three years before Barnes became Governor. Since then has gained over thirty years of experience in the domestic relations arena and is a true player in the field. Mr. Browning is a respected specialist in Family Law Litigation. He has represented clients in notable cases and set precedents in the State of Georgia, arguing numerous times in both the Court of Appeals and Supreme Court of Georgia. As a result of this expertise Mr. Browning is highly sought after both as an attorney and a presenter for various seminars and conferences.

Despite his demanding work schedule, Mr. Browning is actively involved in several civic organizations and plays a vital role in shaping the City of Marietta. Mr. Browning has held leadership positions on the Cherokee Heights Civic Association, West Cobb Community Association, trustee at Joseph T. Walker School, and Downtown Marietta Development Authority. Mr. Browning was also a member of the Oglethorpe University National Alumni Board and served as director of Georgia State Bank. He has fifteen years experience as Chairman of the Institute of Continuing Legal Education Successful Trial Practice Seminar. Mr. Browning is known for his ability and is highly regarded, both personally and professionally.
