Another true native of Georgia, Tyler J. Browning was born April 19, 1975, in Decatur. Mr. Browning has become a highly respected litigator and influential member in the Cobb County community. Upon graduating from the Walker School in 1993, he went on to attend the University of Georgia where he received a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in English in 1997. That same year, he embarked upon his legal career at Georgia State University College of Law, where he received his Juris Doctorate in 2000.
Mr. Browning was extensively involved academically, socially, and civically at both the University of Georgia and Georgia State University. At UGA Mr. Browning was a member of the Golden Key Honor Society and Eta Sigma Phi Classical Honor Society, Performing Arts Committee, and Phi Alpha Delta Pre-Law where he served as social chair. An active member of the Defender-Advocate Society, he was appointed Chief Defender of University Judiciary during his senior year, and was also a Presidential Scholar and Dean’s List honoree. He again displayed his drive to be a part of his community in law school where he was a Sigma Delta Kappa Scholarship recipient and served as Third Year Class Senator and Student Representative to the Scholarship Committee.
Prior to even graduating from law school, Mr. Browning gained invaluable trial and courtroom experience at the Cobb County Solicitor General’s Office under the Third Year Practice Act, and as legal intern to Judge John J. Ellington of the Georgia Court of Appeals. Following graduation Mr. Browning became an active member of the State Bar of Georgia while working as law clerk to Judge Robert E. Flournoy, III, of the Cobb County Superior Court. In August of 2002, Mr. Browning prosecuted criminal cases as an Assistant Solicitor General in the Cobb County Solicitor General’s Office until December 2003, when he became an associate at Browning & Tanksley, LLP, now known as Browning & Smith, LLC.
Mr. Browning is regarded as one of the foremost family lawyers in Cobb County. Since 2005 he has co-chaired the Successful Trial Practice seminar for the Institute of Continuing Education in Georgia. Mr. Browning sits on the Board of Trustees for the Marietta/Cobb Museum of Art and has served on the Church Council at First United Methodist Church of Marietta. He is also an Attorney Coach for the Georgia High Schools Mock Trial Competition and is a former Eagle Scout.
